1894 Original R. Simkin Chromolithograph – South Lancashire Regiment
£150.00
Original period chromolithograph dated 1894, signed lower right by R. Simkin. Depicts full dress uniforms of The Prince of Wales’s Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment), formed from the 40th and 82nd Foot under the Cardwell Reforms. Vivid colouring and classic Simkin styling—note spike helmets, scarlet tunics, and regimental pose composition typical of the late Victorian Army.
Please note the print has been protected with glossy cellophane wrapping which impacts on the photograph. I have included an enhanced photograph to show how it may look without wrapping and under high colour temperature light.
Backed by Storey’s Ltd label (Cecil Court, London) stating “Genuine Antique Engraving Guaranteed over 100 years old.” Further label affirms “Chromo original colour 1894"
Mounted size approx. 39 × 45 cm. Protective cellophane overlay present; colours beneath remain strong and unfaded. No visible rips, foxing, or water damage.
A fine example of late-19th century British military illustration, suitable for framing. One of Simkin’s better compositions for this regiment, and increasingly scarce in genuine chromo format.
