Price

£125.00

Original chromolithograph dated 1890, illustrated by Richard Simkin. Depicts three soldiers of The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) in full dress uniform: red tunics, white crossbelts, dark trousers with red stripes, and black helmets with brass fittings. The officer is shown with sword drawn; two riflemen stand to either side. Captioned “THE BUFFS” below image. Simkin’s signature appears lower left.

- Artist: Richard Simkin (signed)

- Date: 1890

- Medium: Chromolithograph on card

- Mounting: Card-mounted, unframed

- Dimensions: Approx. 37 × 43 cm (dimensions of the mount)

- Condition: Very good. Slight age-related toning; colours remain vivid. No foxing.

Please note the print has been protected with glossy cellophane wrapping which impacts on the photograph. I have included an enhanced photograph to show how it may look without wrapping and under high colour temperature light.

This is a highly collectable example from Simkin’s definitive series on British Army regiments, valued for its accurate uniform detail and regimental specificity. Prints of The Buffs in this condition and format are increasingly scarce, especially with clear artist attribution and original mounting. A strong addition to any collection focused on Victorian military history or period lithography.
